Celebrating Excellence in Palliative and End-of-Life Care
The Palliative and End-of-Life Care Awards 2026 brought together professionals from health, social care, hospice and community settings to celebrate excellence, compassion and innovation in care.
Dr Mev Hocaoglu represented Cicely Saunders International at the event, where she presented the Workforce Development Award. The award recognises individuals and teams whose commitment to education, training, mentorship and staff development strengthens the quality and consistency of palliative and end-of-life care. This year’s recipients were Beverley A Manzar of Ebury Court Care Home and the End-of-Life Care Education Team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Both were recognised for supporting colleagues, developing inclusive practice and helping patients, residents and families receive compassionate, person-centred care.
“It was a privilege to represent Cicely Saunders International and present an award that recognises the vital contribution of workforce development,” said Dr Hocaoglu. “Dame Cicely Saunders’ words, ‘You matter because you are you,’ were reflected in the dedication of colleagues working to ensure that every person is treated with dignity, compassion and respect.”
Hosted by broadcaster Kate Garraway, the evening offered an important opportunity to celebrate outstanding practice and the skilled, supported workforce on which excellent palliative care depends across services and communities every day.
